アイリッシュ・トラディショナル・フォーク・ミュージックとパンク・ロック・スピリットから生み出される独自のスタイルで、時代に確実な足跡を刻み込んだ、ザ・ポーグス。タフでエモーショナルな表現で、ルーツと時代感を織り交ぜながら自分達の音楽を創り上げたバンド、そして精力的に活動した80年代から月日が流れてもなお、いや、現在では、さらに伝説的な存在として、ジャンルを問わず、現在も幅広い リスナーから支持を受けているグループ。そして今回届けられたボックスは、まさに総力を挙げて集められた、彼らの111曲にも及ぶ、デモ、リハ音源、レア・MIX、B-サイド、BBC放送音源、サントラ収録曲など、そのほとんどが未発売、未発表の音源で構成された、まさにファンに捧げられた筋金いりの企画。メジャーデビュー前にスティッフ・レーベルに残した1983年の音源から、2001年の未発表LIVE音源まで、そしてその中には、カースティ・マッコールとの「ニューヨークの夢」のはもちろん、ジョー・ストラマーを迎えて行った’91年のライヴより「ロンドン・コーリング」、さらに1988年の東京公演で披露した「JAPAN」も収録されている。そして、このBOXを完成させたのは、ポーグスのギタリストであり、あの「セイリング」（♪サウザンズ・アー・セイリング～♪）の作曲者でもあるフィリップ・シェヴロンの貢献によるもので、フィリップ・シェヴロン自身が身近に明かしたところでは、彼は癌を患って2007年3月からバンドも離れざるを得ないほどに直面した生命の危機を乗り越え、まさに奇跡的ながらようやく回復の兆しが見える中で、満身創痍になりながらも、全力を注いで完成させた模様。これぞ、ポーグス・スピリット、まさにバンドのキャリアと魂が込められたBOX!!
